In 1883, the American West was ferocious and untamed. Nate Hamby, Hap Dugger and Tom Albert give up their deputy U. S. marshal appointments to pursue their dream -- a ranch on the high plains of Wyoming. Greed and lust for power spawns enmity between them. Albert joins the cattle barons. Hamby and Dugger strive to establish their ranch near Buffalo. Estrangement deepens between Hamby and Albert when they become infatuated with Buffalo's pretty schoolteacher. She marries Albert. Smoldering hatred obsesses Hamby. Unrest and violent vigilante actions force Hamby and Dugger to make a choice -- return to being U. S. marshals or lose their ranch. The conflict escalates. The cattle barons and their hired gunmen invade Johnson County. In the end, good overcomes evil -- or does it?
